The most beautiful viewpoints in Dalmatia
Natural beauty, the beautiful coast and the Adriatic Sea are synonyms for a vacation in Dalmatia, a beautiful part of the Croatian coast where perfect places for the best views and creating your own postcards are really not difficult to find. As soon as you arrive at your destination in Dalmatia, passing along the Adriatic highway, it is essential to take a break at one of the many popular stops from which you can enjoy a view of the indented coast, the riviera, the sea and the islands, ideally before you arrive at one of the Home Rent villas in Dalmatia that you have booked. In addition to them, Dalmatia abounds with a multitude of landscaped viewpoints whose views are simply breathtaking, and the locations of the most popular ones are listed below.
Fortress of St. Michael's
We will start with northern Dalmatia and highlight the famous Fortress of St. Michael's as the first viewpoint which is located in Šibenik. The spectacular view from the fortress of the old town of Šibenik as well as the entire Šibenik archipelago justifies the fact that this is precisely the favorite tourist location in the city. Fortress of St. Michael's is one of a total of four Šibenik fortresses and certainly one of the most significant monuments today. This fortress with a rich history was renovated and opened to the public in 2012, and since then it has been the most beautiful outdoor stage and cultural center of the city, especially in the summer season.
Skradin
Resort Krka - Skradin
Not far from Šibenik is the Krka rest area, which is considered one of the most beautiful Croatian and European rest areas. It is located on the left bank of the Krka River, where the bridge connects the two banks, built on rocks that offer a wonderful view of the Krka River and the town of Skradin. The beautiful ambience of the small restaurant and its environment, decorated in true Mediterranean style, make this place one of those places that you don't want to miss while traveling along the Croatian coast.
Vidilica, Marjan
The first viewpoint, Marjan
Going on with our list when it comes to vacations in Dalmatia, there is the city of Split and one of the most popular tourist locations in Split - Marjan Forest Park. The so-called First Viewpoint Marjan is a beautiful lookout located on the eastern side of Marjan, about two hundred meters above the Split waterfront. It is reached by stairs leading from the west coast, and is known as an ideal place for Marjan recreationists and all visitors who enjoy the view of the city of Split, Diocletian's Palace, the sea, the harbor and the nearby islands of Brač and Šolta. At a slightly higher altitude, there is also Marjan's peak Telegrin, whose view extends not only to the whole of Split, but also to the Kozjak and Mosor mountains and the entire Kaštela Bay. This peak is only a 10-minute walk from the First Viewpoint, but in the forest park you can spend hours and hours exploring all the hidden corners and enjoying different views of the city of Split, while taking a break from its crowded and lively old town core.
Vidova gora
Vidova gora, Brač
Everyone who has already had the opportunity to visit the island of Brač or is just planning their visit to Brač, has surely heard about Vidova Gora - the highest peak not only of the island of Brač but also of all the Adriatic islands. The view from the top of Vidova gora extends to the very south of the island, Bol, the famous Zlatni Rat beach, and reaches into the distance to parts of the indented Hvar coast. The top of Vidova gora is an attractive destination for all mountaineers because of the organized hiking trail that leads to the top, but all those who are not, and want to enjoy the view from the top, can also reach it by car.
Fortica, Hvar
Fortica, Hvar
On the neighboring island of Hvar, the town's Fortica, also known as the Spanish fortress, is the highlight of every sensation in the town of the same name. Due to its ideal position on top of the hill directly above the town of Hvar, the views from the fortress over the town and the archipelago are magnificent. The ascent to the fortress is gentle, and it takes about 20 minutes to walk from the town itself to the top along a well-maintained footpath. The fortress can be reached by car or you can hire a city taxi for transportation in both directions.
Skywalk, Biokovo
Skywalk Biokovo
Skywalk Biokovo is the newest tourist attraction on the Makarska Riviera, and is located in the southwestern part of the Biokovo Nature Park. The lookout point can be reached via the Biokovo road, which leads from the entrance reception of the Biokovo Nature Park, approximately 6 km east of Makarska, to the approach to the lookout point itself. To get to it, you continue to climb the stairs and walk along the semicircular glass surface all the way to the exit on the other side. In this way, the flow of visitors does not stop and excessive crowds are not created that would spoil the impression. The view from the promenade is one of the most spectacular in Croatia, and you can see the Makarska Riviera, the Pelješac peninsula and the islands of Brač, Hvar and Korčula in the palm of your hand.
Srđ, Dubrovnik
Srđ, Dubrovnik
We end the list of beautiful viewpoints in Dalmatia with the southernmost one - Srđ hill above Dubrovnik. In addition to enjoying the spectacular panoramic view of Dubrovnik and the island of Lokrum, on Srđ you will also find a museum that bears witness to the defense of Dubrovnik during the Homeland War, and the biggest history buffs can view parts of military equipment, authentic recordings and video materials, war diaries and other items from that period. You can climb Srđ on foot, by car or by cable car that leads from the city to the very top, and in a few minutes of the ride, you can enjoy the view of Dubrovnik's walls and the picturesque Dubrovnik roofs of the old town.
