Wines of the Dalmatian Hinterland

We asked a team from Krolo winery to give us more information about some of the best wines of the Dalmatian Hinterland. Krolo Winery is located in Stremendoc in Trilj. On more than 6 hectares of land, just 30 minutes from Split, this unique winery annually produces over 40,000 bottles.

Tell us, how did it all start?

It started with a love for great wines. The owner of the winery & villa Krolo has been a wine lover for many years. Working with some of our most respectable winemakers and on the idea of Zlatan Plenković, the first vineyard was planted in 2005 with top varieties of vine.

What types of wine do you produce today?

Today, wines are produced in three versions, black, white, and rosé.

Of the white wines, there is the king of Dalmatia Pošip. This vine variety is known for not being found anywhere in the world except in Dalmatia, so the French motto "if we had Posip, we would conquer the world" perhaps best describes the specificity of this wine. Extremely aromatic, complex, powerful wine.

Of black wine, we have Gardijan (Cuvee cabernet sauvignon and merlot), a very respectable mix of the world's two most famous black varieties. Gardijan also won a bronze award at the IWC in Bordeaux, a significant award for this classic Bordeaux cuvee. It originates from France, more precisely from the French city of Bordeaux.

Crljenak kaštelanski, the most famous castellan globally known as Zinfandel (USA) or Primitivo (Italy), is the flagship of our winery.

Plavac mali, a cult Dalmatian variety, the wine we have is the 2018 vintage.

Rose Šjora is a light, fresh and mineral wine, produced from grenache noir.

When and how can domestic and foreign guests come to taste your wines?
